Benzodiazapine Protracted withdrawal Syndrome:- A group for those unfortunate sufferers of this very debilitating and often misunderstood/misdiagnosed iatrogenic (medication/medically caused) condition. Protracted withdrawal syndrome from benzodiazepines is usually considered to be when someone has significant, fairly constant symptoms 18 months or longer post benzo taper/detox. The vast majority of people (estimates vary between 85% and 95%) that cease benzodiazepines are significantly improved by month 18. More typically, people have diminishing symptoms over an even shorter period of around a year. This group is mainly for those, for whatever reason, that have continued problems after the aforementioned 18 month period.
We gather here to offer each other support of a practical nature, tips and above all, encouragement and hope.
Also to include information and discussion about withdrawal effects from other psychotropic medications such as SSRI anti depressants, 'Z' drugs such as Zopiclone, etc, which can also have very severe and protracted withdrawal syndromes in their own right. Many people are prescribed several types of psych meds concurrently which can cause many complications and is believed by many to significantly slow brain receptor recovery.
Benzodiazepines are a large class of very commonly prescribed tranquillisers, otherwise referred to as central nervous system (CNS) depressants and include the following:- Diazepam (Valium, D-Pam, Pro-Pam), Estazolam (ProSom), Flunitrazepam (Rohypnol), Flurazepam (Dalmane), Halazepam (Paxipam), Ketazolam (Anxon), Loprazolam (Dormonoct), Lorazepam (Ativan), Lormetazepam (Noctamid), Medazepam (Nobrium), Midazolam, (Versed, Hypnovel, Dormicum), Nitrazepam (Mogadon, Insoma, Nitrados), Oxazepam (Serax, Serapax, Serenid, Benzotran), Prazepam (Centrax), Quazepam (Doral), Temazepam (Restoril, Euhypnos, Normison, Sompam), Triazolam (Halcion, Hypam, Tricam).
